Merge PDF files online for free

Upload multiple PDFs, reorder the files, remove unwanted items, and download one combined PDF.

How to merge PDFs cleanly

Select two or more PDF files or drag them into the upload area. Wait for the list to show file names, page counts, and sizes. Put the files in the exact order the recipient should read them, then check total page count against what you expected before exporting.

The first file in the list becomes the first pages of the final PDF. If a document belongs in the middle of the packet, move it before exporting instead of fixing the order later. After download, open the merged file, scan the thumbnails, and confirm the first page, last page, and required attachments.

Prepare the files first

Merging PDFs is partly a technical task and partly an organization task. Before uploading files, rename them so the order is obvious. Names such as 01-cover, 02-form-signed, 03-bank-statement, and 04-receipts are easier to review than download names with random numbers.

Also check whether any file is duplicated, rotated incorrectly, password protected, or much larger than expected. A ten-page scan with very high-resolution images can make the final PDF heavy. If a document does not belong in the final packet, remove it before merging.

Common use cases

The merge tool is useful for reimbursement packets, tax support files, school applications, signed contracts with exhibits, medical claim attachments, travel documents, and client reports. In each case, the reader benefits from one organized file instead of a pile of separate attachments.

For example, a reimbursement package might start with the completed form, then receipts in date order, then proof of payment. A contract packet might start with the signed agreement, followed by annexes and supporting documents. A clear order reduces back-and-forth and makes the recipient less likely to miss a page.

Limits and troubleshooting

Because the merge happens in the browser, very large PDFs can take longer or fail if the device runs out of memory. If that happens, try merging fewer files at once, closing other browser tabs, compressing large scans, or splitting a huge packet into smaller groups and then combining the groups.

Encrypted or damaged PDFs may fail to load. If a file opens only with a password or looks broken in a normal PDF viewer, fix that file first. The merge tool does not remove passwords, repair damaged PDFs, OCR scans, or compress images.

Merge PDF FAQ

Does order matter? Yes. The merge tool appends pages in the exact order shown in the list.

Can I remove one PDF before exporting? Yes. Remove a single item or clear the list to start over.

Does merging compress files? No. The tool combines pages and preserves source content; use a separate compression workflow if size limits matter.

Can password-protected PDFs be merged? Files that cannot be read by the browser may fail. Remove protection only if you have the right to do so, then try again.
